What are Essential Oils?

Essential oils, known as nature’s living energy, are the natural, aromatic volatile liquids found in shrubs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes, and seeds. The distinctive components in essential oils defend plants against insects, environmental conditions, and disease. They are also vital for a plant to grow, live, evolve, and adapt to its surroundings. Essential oils are extracted from aromatic plant sources via steam distillation, and are highly concentrated and far more potent than dry herbs.

While essential oils often have a pleasant aroma, their chemical makeup is complex and their benefits vast—which makes them much more than something that simply smells good.

When are they used?

Historically, essential oils have played a prominent role in everyday life. With more than 200 references to aromatics, incense, and ointments throughout the Bible, essential oils are said to be used for anointing and healing the sick. Today, essential oils are used for aromatherapy, massage therapy, emotional health, personal care, nutritional supplements, household solutions, and much more.

How do you use them?

Simply, an essential oil can be breathed in or used as a perfume for a quick pick me up. It can be put into a diffuser to alter and clear a room. For instance, prior to a massage, Peace and Calming can be placed into a diffuser and run for the duration of the massage enhancing the atmosphere of the room. Likewise, during the massage, PanAway can be applied to specific body parts to soothe muscles and joints. Afterwards, drinking lots of water with Peppermint can further facilitate the effects of the massage treatment as you relax. Later on if you wish to take a bath, add a few drops of Lavender for a more calming effect prior to going to sleep.

Did you know?

  • Essential oils can be used anywhere on the body and one to six drops of oil is all that is required. More is not better.
  • That the feet are the second fastest area of the body to absorb essential oils because of the large pores?
  • Essential oils should never be used full strength on children without first diluting with V-6 mixing oil.
  • Different oils can be used in a layering way, but it is not good to blend individual oils.
  • Lemon essential oil can be used to take gum out of clothes.
  • A few drops of Purification essential oil can be put onto the washer to kill bacteria and germs in clothes.
  • Placing Valor on your wrists, neck, and heart can give you courage to confront someone or do a presentation.
